So what a load of garbage eh? I don’t really watch TV so I have no strong opinion one way or the other about the television based awards, but put them here anyways for those who are interested. These award shows, whether they be in the US or elsewhere, are generally crap but sometimes they make the right decisions. I agree with the awards to Scorsese (obviously), Mo’Nique (supporting actress), Christph Waltz (supporting actor), Up (best animation), The White Ribbon (best foreign language. well maybe I would have given it to Broken Embraces), and Jason Reitman (Screenplay). I would say that in those cases teh right call was undoubtedly made. HOWEVER! Avatar being best film?!?!? Maybe best CG but best film? That movie was just special effects, what a crap recycled storyline! I admit that watching it in 3D blew my mind and for that it probably deserves to be the 2nd highest grossing film of all time, but it’s not best film. Jeeeezuz. Robert Downey Jr. is a great actor but how could he get the award for Sherlock Holmes? Sandra Bullock for her crappy football movie? HA! Then James Cameron for best director…Well he made one heck of a visual experience with Avatar nodoubt but….the movie just wasn’t that good. Look what Kathryn Bigelow did with 0.000000001 of the budget Cameron had. Bollocks. What a joke these awards turned out to be. Some were good, but too many of the most important awards just went to some crap popular choice, not real artistry. Balls.
And I’m done.
Wow, I couldn’t have said it better myself. There were a lot of dirty looks that went out to Cameron and the Avatar crew that night by the competing nominees – and rightly so. I think Up should have won best picture if they were going to choose an animated film – that movie alone blew every other life action film that was made this year clear out of the water.
But I don’t really count these things (Golden Globes and Oscars) worth anything anymore – they’re basically just an excuse for Hollywood to shell out awards to the movies that made them the most money that year or continually pat their favorite actors, whom half the public probably doesn’t even know of, on the back. Although, as much as I was routing for Colin Firth to win best actor since it was his first nomination and all, Bridges did deserve some credit for his performance (which I’ve heard is very good) – so kudos to him.
Indeed, I have not seen the Jeff Bridges movie so i cannot say he was good or bad myself but I have heard nothing by rave reviews thus far. I appreciate your taking the time to comment, I thought people were going to come in here and tell me how Avatar blew their mind and was the best movie ever and that I’m crazy. Blew your mind, sure, best movie? Never. I’m not alone!
I concur!!! Bullocks! Hogwash! Peter Pan knickers!!! ( hey…dont judge )
I am with Sanda Bullock tho…That movie made me smile
Peter Pan knickers? you’re a nutter
Jay, i just saw Fantastic Mr Fox (Golden) and Up in the Air (Sweet Dude)
I havent seen Crazy Heart yet….but i am already boo-ing ( Clooney! Clooney! Clooney! )
Are u as suprised as i am that Daniel Day didnt win? He always wins hahahahhaha
Fantastic Mr. Fox is quite a bit of funa nd I’m glad you liked it, as I like anything Wes Anderson makes. I do feel that it is his tamest effort and although I like it a lot in comparison to his other films I don’t think it is as good (which isn’t putting it down because his first couple of movies are my favourite all time) but go figure that Mr. Fox gets him the best reviews of his career. Obviously reviewers (and audiences?) are trite. Now read my reviews on movies…maybe I do the same thing. I saw Brothers on the weekend. meh.
